The past few weeks we have shifted our focus to narrative writing. I truly thought--this could be a challenge. I mean, we were struggling to write about our every day lives and have the thoughts be solid, exciting, all while utilizin the new concepts and skills FOR writing.
I decided to introduce writing with enthusiasm. I LOVE writing. I really do. It is a passion. A hobby. A belief that stories transcend people and time. We began with creating a story together. We talked about all of the elements--
Beginning
Middle
End
Problem-problem gets worse
Resolution
Ending
Solid Characters
We talked about it. We wrote. We compared. We then took those ideas and worked in a group to create ONE idea per group. We then used those as the problems for our story. So, we have a solid begining and middle. NOW we are working on the ending.
IT IS FANTASTIC!
Better yet---I read their individual stories. The ideas! They take my break away. Fairies. Martians. Lost Emeralds! OH MY! I cannot believe how well the stories flow--the problems and the solutions! I am amazed. I cannot believe that they have FIGURED IT OUT!
I know I am shouting. I am smiling too! I am so thrilled with the opportunity to read the writing and be part of this intimate process of creating something to share.
I am not even worried about the testing pieces of narrative writing. This is when all that creativity and excitement in 7 and 8 year old heads become the possible. The impossibility that cars fly or fairies exist become a reality for an hour and 20 minutes each day.
I love it and can't wait for each of them to share it with you.
