Walk to Reading

This week we started our "Walk to Reading" program. This is when our students rotate classrooms for 80 minutes a day (Monday-Thursday) for reading instruction AT their LEVEL. Students work on skills at the specific level  for his or her development. Instruction is implemented to meet the needs of each individual student to grow and develop both reading ability for phonics such as bossy e, blends, dipthongs, to help with fluency.  Also, students are learning to sound words out, chunk words, skip words to come back at the end, etc. Comprehension is a predominant focus of 2nd grade. Students will work on answering questions, making connections (text to text, text to self, and text to world), and using skills and strategies such as looking back at the text, reflecting, and retelling to full comprehend what is read.

Students love walk-to reading not only because the chance to meet other teachers, but also meet other students. It integrates community with academics as we strive to unify our students, second grade, and our school!

As always---keep reading at home!!! Ask questions! Make connections!! Read! Read! Read!
