Tech-Tech-Techy!

I love that our students are techy. This week we busted out the netbooks. I know that the boys and girls are adept at logging on, manuevering webpages, starting a document, and lo' and behold--typing.

We have finished up a writing assignment and it is time to publish. It is SO time consuming to type out 24 stories and have them done neatly and in a timely manner. I figured-what the heck. Let's have the students have a go at creating their own published-typed-story.

SO MUCH EXCITMENT has ensued about writing! Who knew that a little technology inspired publishing would create the momentum for my sluggish writers to actually edit their work, provide feedback to peers, and revise their leads and endings!

We practiced loading and unloading the netbooks from the cart. We visited the expectations of HOW to use them--including the delicacies of laptops and netbooks. Yes, time consuming for this procedural part, but neccessary for future use and ease. In the end--as always, I am impressed with the ability of my students to rise to the challenge and actually participate appropriately and take care of the computers. I love that they are techy! I love that they WANT to do this and how exciting and innovative it feels to be 7 in second grade with a personal netbook on your desk WHILE you edit and write!

Welcome technology. You are most welcome in our classroom!
