AH! We have been quite busy the past week *add in sugar, Halloween, and some rainy day recess and it is whacky day all the time!* so this is more of a catch up entry and some FYI.
It seems when there is an inservice day I fall behind. The shortened week always seems appealing until you try to cram a full day of learning into another full day! Spelling tests are not quite grades, writing assessments for the report card are ALMOST done and yet, I keep thinking I will NEVER get done!
Yesterday was a Reading Assessment day. I opted to take a substitute so that I could assess each student and not impact the lessons in the classroom. Additionally, it makes me way less crabby . I can give my full attention to each student while he or she reads to me and the students can continue with the planned lessons.
I learned a lot about my students though. First, they have really developed as readers. Not only can they READ, but they read with expression. I enjoyed listening to the inflections and rhythms of their voices. I am incredibly happy with the growth that each student has made.
Fluency-just a quick reminder to KEEP studying! I know that it is easy to forget about the addition and subtraction facts, but this is a HUGE goal for our students this fall. We practice daily and test twice a week. I really hope to have everyone at standard by report card time! We have been checking off our weeks and some of us are starting to get nervous! Talk to your child about where he or she is. We focus on it daily!
Conferences—if you have not turned in your conference slips, I will assign you a day. I meet tomorrow with teachers to try and coordinate sibling conferences back to back. Wednesday a form will come home with your child so that you can let me know if the date/time works out for you!
I do look forward to sharing the growth, progress, and opportunities your child has incurred this year!!
