Role Models and Leadership

Be a Leader

Our class has focused on "Leadership" and "Role Models" as we meet and chat for our classroom meetings. I am a big proponent that EVERY child is a LEADER and EVERY child has potential to lead. Through our discussions we decided that one of our area of focuses for Leadership is in being a "role model". The studetns came up with this list as actionable items for being a role model.

Sharing/Giving
Setting a good example
Respectful-using manners
Following rules-such as quiet in the hallway
Show empathy
Helping others

Our actions for role models are to "Try your best" and "Take charge in making good decisions"

In our efforts to be role models in our building, classroom and community, the students are focusing on ACTIVELY being a role model. This means when others are showing actions or habits that are not part of leadership (talking loudly in the hallways during rotation) the students will use positive words to encourage peers to participate as a role model with them. Leaders and role models are followed-so we are choosing our actions to be as such!

I am proud of the students for wanting to be leaders and role models and working to set good examples for the younger students and for each other! We will continue to focus on leadership over the year and break it into different aspects such as role models. I look forward to hearing how your students feel leadership affects them in school, home and the community!
